#BlackLivesMatter

At the One Woman Project, we have been deeply heartbroken over George Floyd’s untimely death at the hands of Minnesota law enforcement. We condemn the actions of the Minnesota Police Department and support the efforts of those protesting to bring accountability to law enforcement in the United States. We would also like to condemn the actions of those police officers who caused the deaths of Tony McDade, Regis Korchinski-Paquet and David McAtee, who have died in this past week alone, as well as the murder of Breonna Taylor in March of this year.

We believe in justice for George Floyd, and justice for all black folk whose lives have been cut short due to police brutality. We extend our hand in solidarity and support to the Black community in the United States, and we want you to know that we stand with you today and every day.

At the One Woman Project, our goal is to end gender inequality on a global scale. This cannot be done without dismantling systemic racism. Feminism is not feminism if it has roots in racism, colonialism, imperialism and white supremacy.

That being said, we cannot discuss ending racism and injustice in the United States without acknowledging the racism and injustice that occurs in Australia on a daily basis and disproportionately affects the Indigenous, refugee and migrant communities. We acknowledge that our work is done on stolen Indigenous land, to which sovereignty has never been ceded, and that we would not be here today without the work done by First Nations activists, advocates and feminists before us.

Since 2013, we have endeavoured to support the voices of marginalised groups in Australia and overseas through education and access to resources, both on and offline. The only way to begin ending racism and police brutality is through educating our peers, and listening to and supporting the voices of people of colour and our Indigenous communities around the world. Within the organisation, we undertake frequent training to educate ourselves on issues where race and gender intersect, as intersectionality is one of our key values.

If there is any way that the One Woman Project can support you at this time, please let us know. We have a large feminist community, a passionate team and an online platform to share resources and information, and to drive financial support towards dismantling these systems of oppression.

You are safe here. You belong here. You matter here. We all care here.
