Myanmar’s Women Freedom Fighters: In Their Own Words

It has been four years since the Burmese military led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing overthrew the democratically elected civilian government and took control of Myanmar in a coup d’etat on February 1, 2021. As of 2025, civil resistance against the military faction continues to gain momentum. To get a glimpse of the lived experiences of different women People’s Defence Force members, I interviewed five young women aged 18-30 serving in different PDF organisations across Myanmar.
